Hiking, Scuba Diving, Mountain Biking, Computers, Art
I have been making art for many years. I consider this website my latest venture into a new type of medium. In high school I had a voracious interest in computers. I remember connecting to my home computer from school on a 2400 baud modem and thinking I was so cool! Ha ha.
In college I found the highly structured environment of computer engineering way too constricting and chose instead to major in art. I studied mainly photography and book arts, but ventured into printmaking and collage as well.
I have always liked the idea of cross-disciplinary studies. While I have been criticized for not refining my skills in a single area, I am interested in creating new combinations / connections into a polished craft. I am drawn to artists such as Rauschenberg and the Starn twins. Art is an even mixture of intuitive, visual design and emotional attraction as well as a story or mythos of ideas.
I have created this site with the idea to get away from myself as well. Looking less inward and egocentric, I want to expand to the circles and patterns of other artists around me. Everyone has a unique voice, and it would be a privledge to be able to give other talented artists a way to reach others. I have found repeatedly that diversity in all its forms is one of the things I enjoy most about life. I hope to present not only things that I cherish on this website, but also things that challenge and confront you as well.
My desire is that viewers of this site will not only look at the artwork, but take time to reflect on them, especially work that puzzles them. Some of the most profound realizations about myself and the reality around me have come from contemplation on a piece of art.
